Introduced to South America by Catholic missionaries, wine growing spread not only thanks to their efforts, but also to the development of French, German and Italian colonies. Tannat, Case Margrez's main grape variety, produces excellent results in this country with an oceanic climate, like Bordeaux, but with hotter summers.
The grapes are picked into creates and destemmed by hand. Winemaking methods include manual punching down of the cap, and the wine is left on the skins for an extended period. Casa Magrez, like all the world's finest wine, is aged in new French oak barrels.
