Domaine Valescure Merlot, Vin du Pays du Gard, 2006100 % Merlot from vines grown on the chalky-clay soils typical of this valley. The grapes are de-stemmed after harvest and fermented in the same way as with the Cabernet Sauvignon. A proportion of the free run juice is blended with the press wine for the malo-lactic fermentation in barrel, giving the wine suppleness and complexity. Best drunk over the next 5 years. |
Domaine Valescure Cabernet Sauvignon, Vin du Pays du Gard, 2006The grapes are de-stemmed at harvest and following a short cold maceration of about 5 days at 8 degrees centigrade, the alcoholic fermentation commences at 22 degrees allowing for a slow extraction of colour and fruit. |

Santenay, 1er Cru Clos de Tavannes, Girardin, 2003Nicely woody, with aromas of flowers and peach. Rich and nutty, with very good intensity. Mineral, grippy, long and fine |

Lugana, ''Argillaia'', Fabiano, 2007Produced from Trebbiano grapes, this remarkably good wine deserves better attention. Coming from a prevalently level soil of clayey and calcareus nature, it is a wine with light green colour tending to gold reflections with the refining in bottle. It is a very well structed wine with a fruity and delicate bouquet, soft and harmonious taste with a hint of oak. |
Matakana PinotGris, 2004Delicate wine with a citric freshness and surprising complexity and length. |
Yalumba Shiraz Viognier, South East Australia, 2004Classic Shiraz aromas of red berry, black pepper and anise leap from the glass, balanced with a lick of vanilla oak |

Vitiano 2005, Falesco, UmbriaRicardo Cotarella is probably one of the most sough-after wine consultants in the whole of Central and South Italy. Along with brother Renzo of Antinori fame, he has built Falesco into one of the new powerhouses of Italy. On a personal level, I consider their Vitiano to be one of the best valued wines around. |
Pinot Noir, Pencarrow Estate, Martinborough, 2005From the renowned Palliser Estate in Martinborough, this attractive Pinot has plenty of ripe red berry fruits - notes of raspberries and fruits of the forest. Silky tannins and an excellent finish. |
