Nuits St Georges, Domaine Chezeaux, 2004Medium bodied, this offers plenty of ripe berry fruits and meaty flavours; hints of spice and an excellent mineral backbone. There is also excellent acidity, lending the wine great balance and finesse. |
St Joseph Rouge 2005, Domaine CourbisRich dark red colour and a bouquet of red berry fruit lead to a rich full bodied yet mellow wine made entirely with the Syrah grape. The wine is allowed to macerate for 12-30 days depending on the vintage and is matured in oak barrels with 50% in barrels of 1 wine the balance in barrels of 2 or 3 wines. The wonderful opulence of the wine makes it the perfect complement to red meat dishes and it also lends itself perfectly to spicey dishes, it's lightly peppery Syrah style matching the complexity of the spice. |

Vacqueyras 2005, Domaine de MontvacDelicious blend of Grenache (60%) and Syrah (30-35%)gives this wine its character enhanced by a small (5-10%) percentage of Mourvedre whose soft ripe tannins help the wine to mature gracefully. The three cepages are vinified together, initially at low temperature to ensure the capture of the varietal aromas and then at higher temperatures to extract the tannins and to achieve the rich complexity associated with the wines from this domaine. The wines mature elegantly for 2 to 4 years and in exceptional vintages can continue to develop complexity and finesse over 5 - 7 years. |

Kahina 2003, MoroccoThis and the wine from Morocco below are both from the stable of the renowned proprietor of Château Pape Clément, Bernard Magrez. He specialises in securing estates that have the potential to be world class wines. Robert Parker has been an admirer, which has brought Magrez significant exposure. 80% Tannat and 20% Merlot from young vines and aged in French oak. We've not been as successful in convincing customers that we have a wine from Uruguay that is a good buy. This medium bodied wine has great elegance and style; the subtle use of new oak has not obscured the mineral notes of the fruit, which gives the wine great appeal. |
Ruitersvlei Pinotage, 2005Sweet red fruits and savoury wild herbs give this wine a punchy palate and an expressive character. |
Conde De Valdemar, Rioja Gran Reserva, 1997A real powerhouse of a wine full of big ripe blackcurrant and vanilla. |
Gran Casa Magrez, Bernard Magrez, Uruguay, 1997Introduced to South America by Catholic missionaries, wine growing spread not only thanks to their efforts, but also to the development of French, German and Italian colonies. Tannat, Case Margrez's main grape variety, produces excellent results in this country with an oceanic climate, like Bordeaux, but with hotter summers. |
